Extracellular vesicles in neurodegenerative diseases and cancer
EV research of this group started in 2017 at the Institute of Animal Physiology and Genetics of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Libechov, where we studied mainly roles of extracellular vesicles in intercellular communication and as a possible sources of biomarkers of hereditary neurodegenerative disorder Huntington´s disease.
From 2023, this research group moved to Prague to the First Faculty of Medicine of the Charles University and beside neurodegenerative diseases, we study also involvement of EV in intercellular communication and spread of pro-inflammatory molecules in cancer, particularly in melanoma and glioblastoma.
We cooperate with the Institute of Experimental Medicine of the Czech Academy of Sciences (flow cytometry of EVs), with the Department of Chemical Engineering of the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague (characterization of nanoparticle size).
Used techniques: ultracentrifugation and gradient ultracentrifugation; NTA, TEM, western blots; proteomics, mass spectrometry, multiplex immunoassays and others.
