Santorini Paste
One of the real discoveries of the 1997 season and definitely
a new addition to my top ten list; very heavy set of 2", heavily
scalloped and flattened fruits which are very attractive;
rather seedy but dried well;
Original seed collected fall 1996 by Sonja Steifel on the
island of Santorini in Greece where it is commercially grown.

4-5" pepper-shaped, very meaty paste tomatoes on 5' vines;
fruits often dropped before ripe and were ripened indoors;
many inflorescences terminated with a small leaf.

Schmmeig Striped Hollow
Heavy set of ruffled or tri-lobed 3-4" hollow fruits on 4½'
vines; skin red with orange streaks; flesh red; very attractive;
central cavity not as large as Liberty Bell; seems quite similar
to Striped Cavern.

Sheboygan
Another one of my best new varieties of 1997; very heavy
production of 4"x3" pink, meaty fruits; skin and flesh soft,
so can equally well be used fresh or for canning.
This variety has been grown since the early part of the century
in Sheboygan, Wisconsin by Lithuanian immigrants.

Silvery Fir Tree
2-3" round red, moderately seedy fruits on determinate, compact,
2' vine with highly dissected leaves. Is best grown in window
boxes, where it becomes a cascade of fern-like foliage with
bright red fruits.

one of my favorite ox-heart varieties.

fruits.

Russian variety. Name refers to the pitch-black nights in
the southern territories of the former Soviet Union, as opposed
to the white nights of Moscow.

Probably my best new variety of 1999, and definitely in my
top 10 list; 5x3" tapered red fruits with stunning wavy orange
stripes; fruits meaty and with excellent flavor; the markings
are more distinct than reported by John Swenson in the 1999

Bell pepper shaped, hollow fruits that are red and orange
striped on the outside and have red flesh; seems like a dead-ringer
to the Schimmeig Striped Hollow.
