Single-subject study
Study in which a student has a pre-defined list of compulsory courses, which he/she complements from the offer of the given selective and elective courses.
Compared to studies with specialisation, these programmes usually differ in that the student enjoys greater freedom in the choice of selective and elective courses.

Single-subject study with specialisation
The study consists of common courses for the given degree programme and specialised courses. The specialisation should increase knowledge in a specific part of the graduate’s profile. The degree programme may offer several specialisations; a student always enrols in one of them.

Joint (double-subject) studies
Joint studies are a combination of the main field of study and the secondary field of study, which forms part of a different degree programme. For the time being, it is not possible to freely combine the main and secondary fields.

With the exception of pedagogical studies, this joint study is asymmetric at Masaryk University, i.e. significantly differs in the volume of studies in the main and secondary study plans.

Daily study
Daily mode of study means that the student’s duties are scheduled for individual working days according to a predetermined schedule.

Combined mode of study
A combined mode of study is often chosen by those applicants who also have some other duties (such as employment or family) which prevent them from attending lectures on a daily basis. Teaching takes place in blocks, usually on Fridays, mostly on the basis of a fixed schedule drawn up by the relevant faculty workplace.

All applicants must pass a written entrance examination unless it has been waived for them. The applicants can find information in the e-application.

The entrance examinations for Bachelor’s studies at the Faculty of Science of Masaryk University differ according to the individual programmes.

Most programmes require only passing the Study Prerequisites Test (TSP), but some programmes combine the TSP with a specialised test (ST). For some selected programmes, there is a choice between TSP or ST, TSP or IPLP (Interview to prove your learning potencial) or both. If both these tests are chosen, each test will be evaluated separately and the better result will count. For detailed information on the entrance examination, please refer to the individual programmes.

If an application has been filed for several programmes, the TSP will be taken only once. If an applicant applies for several programmes or if he/she chooses several specialisations for which the same specialised test is required, this test will again take place only once. The Faculty of Science can guarantee that the dates of various examinations will not collide for no more than two different options held within the Faculty.

If a specialised test forms part of the entrance examination for double-subject study, the dates and further information will be published by the Faculty that organises the given programme. 

Tests of Study Prerequisites (TSP) are a universal entrance examination for applicants for Bachelor’s studies at most faculties of Masaryk University. If an applicant submits applications for multiple programmes, the test is taken only once.

In addition to the TSP, some programmes also require passing a written specialised test (ST). 

Only applicants who take the school-leaving examination in the spring semester of the current school year or in the previous school year may apply for waiver of the entrance examination. They shall document this fact by presenting a secondary-school confirmation provided on the form “Application for Waiver of Entrance Examination”.

The Dean of the Faculty may grant the application depending on the programme’s capacity. If the entrance examination for a programme which includes multiple specialisations is waived, the applicant will be assigned to the specialisation with the highest priority. The Dean’s statement on the application for waiver of the entrance examination will be published in the e-application by the set deadline.

A application for waiver of the admission examination together with documents confirming fulfilment of the criteria enter in the e-application, not later than by the set deadline.

The number of admitted applicants is limited by the capacities of the individual degree programmes and their specialisations, as the case may be. As a rule, applicants whose entrance examination has not been waived will be admitted based on the order of their final score achieved during the examination. The overall evaluation will include the result of the TSP and, where applicable, the specialised tests or interview to prove your learning potencial. Specialisation preference may be taken into account when evaluating the entrance examination.

The maximum possible score that can be achieved by an applicant is 1000 points. The weights for the individual parts are as follows:

Students with various types of handicaps are assisted in the preparation by the Support Centre for Students with Special Needs – Teiresiás.

The centre can offer help to people with a sensory or motor impairment, chronic illness, psychological problems and specific learning disorders. These people receive support ranging from the organisation’s own dispatching centre for personal assistance, to a number of aids, and to counselling and the centre’s own university-wide office for studies.

An applicant for study at the Faculty of Science of Masaryk University may file an appeal against a decision on admission/non-admission for study. The appeal has to be lodged with the Dean of the Faculty within 30 days of delivery of the decision and sent to the following address: Office for Studies of the Faculty of Science of Masaryk University, Kotlářská 2, 611 37 Brno.

The number of successful applicants may be increased after enrolment if it is found that the programme’s capacity has not been exhausted. In that case, admission to study will be offered to other applicants exactly according to the order of scores they attained in the entrance examination, regardless of whether or not the applicant has filed an appeal against the Dean’s decision.

Additional admission will be recorded in the applicant’s e-application in the week following enrolment in the 1^st year. The decision on admission will be published in the e-application.
