An introductory word from the Dean
Dear colleagues,
The first half of the semester, which is now almost over, offered plenty of sunny days that we were able to make use of for a range of great events which allowed us once again to have personal meetings, something we really missed during the COVID pandemic. We started the academic year at the Kotlářská campus, where we baptised the long-awaited book ‘History written by scientists (Dějiny psané přírodovědci)’, and even planted a tree. On Bohunice Campus, we were once again able to hold a barbecue with the Deans.
More recently, we managed to launch the prestigious MUNI Mendel Doctorandus Award Programme, celebrate the 99th birthday of our Emeritus Professor of Physics and Rector of the University of Silesia in Opava, Martin Černohorský, and arouse interest in science among potential students and wide public at the Festival of Science, the Researchers’ Night and the Open Day. At the same time, we also managed to teach and learn and devoted ourselves to science.
With winter approaching, many of you are looking forward to the second half of the semester with increased anxiety due to the current energy crisis. In this regard, I would like to assure you that the management of the faculty will do everything to ensure that we manage not only the autumn semester but also the coming spring semester with no major restrictions on teaching or operation of laboratories, whether for teaching or research. At the same time, I would like to encourage you to save energy and resources, though any such savings should be reasonable, such that they do not compromise quality and the consequences do not generate additional costs for the future.
I wish everyone plenty of strength and positive energy for the continuation of the academic year.
Yours
Tomáš Kašparovský
Dean of the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University
