Hemiparasitic plants help to maintain the lawns on the Bohunice University Campus

The lawns on the Bohunice University Campus are currently blooming in yellow and magenta colours. This is due to two hemiparasitic plants, Rhinanthus alectorolophus and Melampyrum arvense, which not only bloom beautifully but also reduce the growth of otherwise dominant grasses and other plants. Research by scientists from the Department of Botany and Zoology at the Faculty of Science of Masaryk University has been focused on hemiparasitic plants and their application in nature conservation.

Dean’s Awards 2023

Dean Tomáš Kašparovský has presented awards to the best students of the MU Faculty of Science. This year’s Dean’s Awards were presented to a total of nine laureates in the Best Student category in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme, and to eleven promising scientists in the Best Student category of the Doctoral study programme. Moreover, the award was also presented to a team of seven outstanding students of the pregraduate and postgraduate programmes. Congratulations to all the winners!

CRYTUR Prize 2023

CRYTUR, spol. s r.o. in cooperation with CareerMarket.cz announces a competition for the best diploma thesis in material sciences. The aim of the competition is to reward the authors of the best theses with a focus on material sciences, thus encouraging their efforts to apply the acquired knowledge in practice and highlighting innovative practices. Prizes are also intended for thesis supervisors.

Martin Toul: MUNI Mendel Doctorandus is an opportunity to move and develop

The first of the fabled first swallows to graduate from the MUNI Mendel Doctorandus (MMD) programme was a student of the Faculty of Science of Masaryk University, RNDr. Martin Toul, Ph.D. Martin completed the program, fulfilled all the requirements and defended his dissertation in the European Doctorate mode. In addition to the diploma and the International Certificate, thanks to the support of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Tomáš Kašparovský, he will also receive an incentive scholarship for successful MMD graduates.

Dies academicus: Awards for outstanding scientists and successful students affiliated with our faculty

Today, the Karel Engliš Great Hall at the MU Faculty of Law hosted the Dies Ademicus Assembly of the Academic Community associated with the presentation of the Masaryk University Rector's Awards. The MU Silver Medal was awarded to Ludvík Kunz, the MU Rector's Award to Pavel Plevka, Martin Toul and Barbara Kubičková. Congratulations!

BRNO SPACE - STUDENT CONFERENCE 2023

Human endeavours in the field of space research and its wider application is a dynamically developing field. This is evident not only in the research and development of technologies but especially in the ever-increasing use of satellite data and space technologies in all areas of everyday life. We believe that issues related to space research, including the development and processing of satellite data, rightfully belong in the study and research programs of our universities. On 27 April 2023, the three largest universities in Brno will be organising a student conference on this subject in Building C at the Faculty of Agriculture, Mendel University in Brno.
