Graduation ceremony
This week, we hold another graduation ceremonies for our successful graduates. We would like to congratulate the new masters, engineers and bachelors and wish them much professional and personal success!
On the occasion of the academic holiday ‘Dies academicus’ on Thursday, June 10, 2021, the Rector of Masaryk University, Martin Bareš, presented the Rector’s Awards for Outstanding Achievements in Science and Research, Teaching Activities, Art and Civic Activities to four scientists from the MU Faculty of Science. Petr Liška (Department of Mathematics and Statistics) and Jan Böhm (RECETOX and the Faculty of Economics and Administration) Received the Award for outstanding teaching, Katarína Bernátová (Department of Physical Electronics) won the Award for Outstanding Doctoral Student and Cosimo Lobello received the Award for an Outstanding Dissertation. Congratulations!
Petr Liška’s teaching focuses on the field of mathematical analysis. In addition to mathematical analysis, the subjects he teaches include information technology in high school mathematics and analytical geometry. Students particularly appreciate his empathy and flexibility and the human approach he gives to his lectures.
As a teacher, Jan Böhm focuses on statistics, data mining, discrete deterministic models and simulation of financial models. He works at both the Department of Applied Mathematics at MU ESF and the Department of Biostatistics and Data Analysis at the RECETOX Centre. Students in Jan Böhm’s lessons appreciate the clarity with which he can explain complex topics.
Katarína Bernátová, an excellent student and talented researcher, focused her research on two areas, deposition by magnetron sputtering and characterisation of the thin films thus produced, as well as diagnostics of the deposition process itself.
Last year, Cosimo Lobello successfully defended his dissertation entitled “The Prognostic Value of the Mutational Landscape in Systemic Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma”. In it, he dealt with the mutation spectrum of rare systemic anaplastic large cell lymphomas.

During their 20th Antarctic expedition to the Czech J.G. Mendel Station on James Ross Island, young scientists experienced an average weight gain. This surprising finding comes from body measurements and 3D full-body and facial scans conducted before and after the expedition by Masaryk University, Faculty of Science anthropologists using the A.D.A.P.T. software platform.
