The project will investigate the role of nitrogenous storage compounds in fast growth, vegetative spreading and generative shoots formation of Calamagrostis epigejos. The project will be solved within a frame of a complex research programme which is aime d at explanation of causes and consequences of expansive spreading of this species in many biotops in the Czech Republic. Dynamics of quantitative and qualitative changes in content of nitrogenous storage compounds and their relation to plant growth rat e will be followed in the field. Special importance will be given to the key points of the growth cycle (the initial growth in spring, fertile shoot formation, regrowth after cutting). The growth chamber experiments will be focused on detailed quantifica tion of changes in the amount and types of nitrogenous storage compounds and changes in storage capacity for these compounds under different availability of inorganic nitrogen to plants. With a help of special experiments the relationship between the gr
