Vítězslav Otruba receives the Bronze Medal of MU
Yesterday, the Masaryk University Bronze Medal for Lifetime Achievement was officially presented to Professor Emeritus Vítězslav Otruba by the Dean of the Faculty Tomáš Kašparovský.
The Dean of Masaryk University’s (MU) Faculty of Science, Tomáš Kašparovský, thanked Zdenek Losos and Ctibor Mazal for the extraordinary results they have achieved as directors of their respective departments by presenting them with MU Bronze Medals.
The MU Bronze Medal is awarded to Masaryk University employees who have achieved extraordinary results and contributed to the development of higher education and the university as a whole. The Zdeněk Losos and Ctibor Mazal Medals were awarded by the Rector of Masaryk University, Martin Bareš, at the suggestion of Tomáš Kašparovský, Dean of the Faculty of Science.

Zdeněk Losos is a graduate of the MU Faculty of Sciences and has been working professionally at his alma mater since 1985. He obtained his habilitation in 1998, based on his outstanding scientific and educational achievements, gaining the title of Associate Professor in the field of mineralogy.
Zdeněk Losos is not only an excellent teacher but also an active scientist whose publications are well cited, as shown by his Web of Science response (150 citations) and Hirsch index (seven), both of which indicate his significant contribution to the field of geology at the international level. Zdeněk Losos has been the administrator of the Department of Geological Sciences’ mineralogical collections since 2001 and has been the Chairman of the Board of the Geology Doctoral Study Programme since 2006.
Zdeněk Losos participated actively in academic self-government as a member of the Faculty of Science Academic Senate over two terms of office. Furthermore, he was significantly involved in the management of the Faculty of Science as Director of the Institute of Geological Sciences from 2017 to 2023.
Ctibor Mazal is a graduate of the Organic Chemistry programme of the MU Faculty of Science and has been working professionally at his alma mater since 1982. He obtained his habilitation in 2003, based on his outstanding scientific and educational achievements, gaining the title of Associate Professor in the field of Organic Chemistry.
Ctibor Mazal is an exceptional teacher and scientist, whose publications have been well cited, as shown by his Web of Science response (with over 353 citations) and his Hirsch index (eleven), both of which indicate his significant contribution to organic chemistry at the international level.
Ctibor Mazal actively participates in academic self-administration as a member of both the Faculty of Science’s Academic Senate and the Academic Senate for Masaryk University as a whole. He has been significantly involved in the management of the Faculty of Science, having acted as Director of the Department of Chemistry for a respectable sixteen years between 2007 and 2023.
Yesterday, the Masaryk University Bronze Medal for Lifetime Achievement was officially presented to Professor Emeritus Vítězslav Otruba by the Dean of the Faculty Tomáš Kašparovský.
The Dean of the Faculty of Science Tomáš Kašparovský will award 35 personalities who have made a significant contribution to the development of the Faculty, and its departments and institutes, over the last few decades.
