An introductory word from the Dean

Dear colleagues,

I would like to take this opportunity to extend my greetings at the beginning of the new semester.

The central theme that has resonated since the beginning of the new year, not only at our faculty, is the strengthening of the safety of students and employees. I am pleased to announce that we have prepared a series of security measures for the entire university, which include, among other things, an early warning system using SMS or the creation of a database of MU crisis contacts for the Police of the Czech Republic in the event of a direct threat. All employees have also received the Online emergency response training. While we all wish we would never need any of the new measures, a degree of caution is certainly in order.

The first days of the spring semester brought the usual pleasant revival to the faculty - both our campuses are full of students. After the exam period, the classrooms, labs, and corridors have returned to their traditional bustle, and there is a lot of positive energy and determination, which I am always happy to see. In addition to many study or work obligations, everyone can also look forward to meetings and events that will take place in the spring at the faculty and the entire Masaryk University, which is celebrating its 105th anniversary this year.

I hope you will take advantage of some of these opportunities to meet your colleagues or classmates and that we will meet at these events, including the less formal ones. The Faculty of Science annual Ball will be held on the first Saturday in March; in April, our Botanical Garden will prepare a program for Earth Day; the University campus in Bohunice will host MUNI Day for students and employees in May, and I look forward to seeing many of you at the Faculty of Science Dean's Awards in early June.

I wish everyone lots of positive energy, success, and enjoyable meetings in the coming spring months.
