Petr Ponížil – Star of Bethlehem

The symbol of Christmas is the comet hanging over the stable in Bethlehem. The Bible tells of a star that brought the wise men from the East. The star of Bethlehem is also connected with the question of the date of the birth of Jesus Christ. Was he born in the first year after Christ? What astronomical phenomenon took place in the sky at that time? Was it a comet, a supernova, or a conjunction of planets? And when did it happen?

In my course, I will take you through the historical sources of this phenomenon. Together, we will try to separate legend from documented fact while discovering what a comet, supernova, or planetary conjunction is.
